On Swiss Legacy

March 28, 2025

During the 1541 Calvin’s ban on ostentatious jewelry, Swiss jewelers and goldsmiths turned to watchmaking as an alternative, and their expertise proved crucial in ensuring watchmaking’s relevance.

While designing my watch I sought to use a movement that could represent my admiration for their impact, and one in particular —the Peseux 7001— called to me.

In the 20th century, the Swiss watch industry went through a crisis —driven by quartz— that forced it to reinvent itself, and the 7001 played a pivotal role in the industry’s survival.

At 2.5mm thickness, it was a versatile movement able to compete with the novelties of quartz while upholding Swiss standards.

Developed in 1971, the Peseux 7001 was integrated to the ETA brand in 1985, and remains a benchmark for hand-wound movements to this day.

This historic movement has proven to be the perfect representation of Swiss resilience in my design.
