Started as a way for me to apply my knowledge to create something unique to myself.
Little I knew, of how deep was the well I was diving into.

I learned very fast to respect those that started it all. And those that keep this craft alive.

The journey transformed me. Time showed not to be forgiving. And demanded itself into this craft.

It demands Time: Time of patience. Time of focus. Time of study, of learning.
It teased me into thinking I was almost there, just to trick me into rushing the last steps and forcing me to start it all over again.

It tamed me, humbled me. And in the end proved it all to be worth My Time.

Five years into the making of this watch, and it is now something eternalized into my mind. A physical companion to always remind me of these teachings.

On the Language of Light https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-the-language-of-light/ Fri, 24 Oct 2025 17:03:20 +0000 https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-the-language-of-light/ Perception is a deeply personal affair—a unique point of view created by us, for ourselves. This new chapter of our work is dedicated to creating details that are not only seen, but perceived.

It was a week of meditative work. With gentian wood and diamond paste, I polished hidden chamfers of the bracelet links. The goal is not a uniform shine, but something more elusive: to prepare each surface to command the light, transforming a brief exposure into a distinct, fleeting highlight.

These polished surfaces are hidden, their geometry designed to interact with light in a specific way. The result is intriguing: as the wrist moves, the bracelet offers a sudden flash of light. Yet, when you try to find it by looking directly, it vanishes. It demands intentional movement, a conscious alignment with a light source—a secret view that only the wearer can truly initiate.

This glimmer that is so vivid for the wearer is often invisible to a casual observer. It is a private experience, reserved solely for those who know.

On Perception https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-perception/ Fri, 17 Oct 2025 16:04:34 +0000 https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-perception/ It’s been 3 weeks since the parts came back from heat treatment, and now we enter a new chapter in our journey.

Through the innovations achieved by our species, the material has been formed and its essence transformed. This new chapter is not one of function, but one of perception.

Now it’s time for the creator to leave its mark; the human hand is the tool for this transformation.

A lapping plate and diamond paste create the flat polished surface necessary to guarantee the purity of the delicate finish that will be created in the tumbling process.

Finally, time, water, and ceramic media work together to create a mesmerizing uniform matte finish.

On Integrity https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-integrity/ Wed, 01 Oct 2025 22:02:10 +0000 https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-integrity/ The parts have returned from heat treatment—a crucial moment in this journey.

The steel endured over 1000°C, a process that transformed it. There were no imperfections to exploit, no hidden mistakes to be revealed. It emerged stronger, its integrity absolute.

To assemble them now would create a perfect machine. But this project has never been just about function.

This marks the beginning of a new stage—a moment of detail, the refining steps to give the CEON GR-01 the attention it deserves.

On the Joy of Time https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-the-joy-of-time/ Tue, 16 Sep 2025 03:59:46 +0000 https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-the-joy-of-time/ With the components for the GR-01 away for heat treatment, a rare stillness has settled in. This period of waiting is a joyful part of the process.

We often forget that our minds need the passage of time to structure everything that happens around us. Like a steady rhythm in a piece of music, a clear sense of time passing provides the framework for our experiences, our memories, and our sense of self.

A watch is much more than its gears and springs; it is the rhythmic beat that we need to orient ourselves. A small machine dedicated only to confirming that time is, indeed, moving forward, and that we are moving with it.

That is the reason I reconnected with in this interlude. The purpose of this work is not just to build a machine that tracks time, but to create a beautiful and constant reminder of its precious, rhythmic nature.

This time of reflection helps to connect with the reasons behind all this work, and soon the parts will return, transformed, and ready for the final steps of this journey.

On The Window of Time https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-the-window-of-time/ Sun, 31 Aug 2025 09:57:22 +0000 https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-the-window-of-time/ While some components face the furnace, the dial endures its own trial. It begins with the cold precision of a laser, etching a texture to play with light. The surface is then submerged in acid, a process that transforms it, creating a shimmering, sandy finish.

This mesmerizing texture, however, is incomplete without the human hand. On the lapping plate, patience becomes motion. Stroke by stroke, the dial is polished to the brilliant shine needed to reflect time.

Each part of the GR-01 has its own history to share. Each has endured its own unique challenges to be brought into existence.

On Points of No Return https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-points-of-no-return/ Fri, 15 Aug 2025 15:54:58 +0000 https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-points-of-no-return/ Five months have passed since I first wrote here. Today, for the first time, every steel component of the GR-01 lies ready.

Each part has been crafted to exacting standards, but they are not yet complete. Soon they face their final transformation—a trial by fire. Heated to over 1000°C in a vacuum furnace and quenched. A process that will forever change their structure.

This is a point of no return. The intense heat will test the limits of the design, revealing any imperfection, any mistake made over these past months.

Yet, there is no fear. These parts were made for this moment. The ritual is about to begin.

On a New Era https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-a-new-era/ Fri, 08 Aug 2025 16:13:20 +0000 https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-a-new-era/ With the end of the Second World War, the focus turned from function, necessity, and survival to a more enjoyable, prosperous, and optimistic era. The rise of the professional class brought with it a very specific dress code, and they felt freer to express themselves.

The “Jet Age”, thin and fast became a reference for design. From cars to watches, the slim profile was a symbol of taste and status, sparking a rush for thinner timepieces.

A friendly competition for the thinnest watch began. Piaget, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and Vacheron Constantin were just some of the names that pursued it, and true engineering marvels were born from this time. They became a display of excellent craftsmanship.

That philosophy is the core of the GR-01. To achieve this profile, every component must be brought to its limits. It is an expression of engineering rigor, where there is no room for error.

This is the body of the watch, a spirit of a bygone era born from modern machinery. A glimpse of what is to come.

On the Value of Time https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-the-value-of-time/ Fri, 01 Aug 2025 16:31:43 +0000 https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-the-value-of-time/ It all started with our hand, stone and wood. And still these tools are essential to watchmaking.

The lapping plates are great resources for polishing accessible flat parts of the watch, but for more intricate parts we usually get back to our origins and to the use of wood and stone.

These tools can be used to achieve a high polish on these intricate places. The properties of the pegwood shine here: it can easily be shaped to reach hard places, is firm enough to maintain shape and soft enough not to scratch the metal and carry the diamond paste.

The last part of this puzzle is our human hand—the driver of it all. It is able to feel the whole process and adapt; it becomes a ritual. Slow and steady the movement flows, the part gets closer to what was envisioned.

All of this takes time—the wood needed time to grow, diamond to form, technique to be refined and each stroke needs its own moment. This time is what allows each piece to speak. It is how it earns its story.

On Feeling Right https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-feeling-right/ Fri, 25 Jul 2025 16:50:06 +0000 https://www.ceonwatches.com/journal/on-feeling-right/ After the fire of heat treatment and the force of machining, the components are dimensionally perfect, but they are not yet ready.

Their surfaces carry the scars of their creation—the tool marks and tempering scale that tell a story of a rough journey. My next step is not one of precision, but of feel.

Through a delicate dance of tumbling and acid passivation, we smooth the scars. It is a profound balancing act: too long, and we sacrifice the tolerances we fought for; too little, and the roughness remains.

This meticulous search for the perfect parameters, a texture that ensures the silent conversation between the watch and the wrist.
